This is such an important thing to say, though.
A lot of people are acknowledging this as a very powerful sound bite, but take a minute to really consider the context of this.
Every time you misgender a trans person, you are putting their lives in danger.
You aren’t just hurting our feelings - and there is nothing “just” about hurt feelings for people prone to suicide - you risk outing us to people we may not want to be outed to.
It opens us up to harassment, discrimination, and even assault. We could lose our jobs, our families, and our livelihood.
Every time you intentionally misgender a trans person, you tell us that you consider us to be less than animals.
Y’know people say shit about social media along the lines of ‘OMG no one cares what anyone had for breakfast’ and like.
I do? I care. I’m pretty sure a lot of people care. I want to hear that the people I care about are having delicious breakfasts or saw something odd at work or flirted with a cute barista. Or just any little thoughts they have that they feel are worth sharing.
I’ve always kind of assumed that’s how you’re supposed to feel about your friends.
Last 1.5 hours to show time at Thom Browne FW2014.
Hey guys, I know this isn’t about the uswnt but the woso community is very small and these girls really need some help. The Jamaican Women’s National Team is attempting to qualify for the Women’s World Cup in 2015, however the Jamaican Federation is giving them what amounts to no support so all funds to qualify must be raised privately. I know woso fans in general are not a wealthy bunch but really anything you can spare is great.
